Visual Condition Survey

Visual Condition Survey

Visual assessment of a road pavement is undertaken in accordance with HD 29/08 to identify and record all relevant defects and other features relevant to determining the pavement condition at scheme level. Defects to be recorded are identified in Table 3.1 of HD 29/08. The survey shall cover all scheme lanes which include the hard shoulder/stripe and running lanes. Ideally a visual survey is completed under dry conditions and in daylight to ensure that all defects are visible

Data collection for this survey can also be conducted utilising a Video Survey.  This can be carried out at traffic speed but relies on the resolution of the video being able to detect surface defects and anomalies.
