Sample Containers

Sample Containers

The following basic guidelines apply to ensure samples are not deviating samples

Soils

  • Samples requiring any type of organic testing (PAH, PCB, TPH, etc) require a filled250ml amber jar.
  • Where a sample requires volatile testing (VOC, BTEX) an additional a 60ml amber jar, filled to the brim with no headspace is also required
  • Any sample requiring inorganic testing only will require a filled 250 ml amber jar or alternatively a 500g plastic container.
  • For the WAC suite, a 500g plastic container, a 250ml amber jar plus a 60ml amber VOC jar are required.

Waters

  • Any sample requiring organic testing (PAH, PCB, TPH, SVOC etc) require a filled 500ml amber bottle per determinant required.
  • Where a sample requires volatile testing (VOC, BTEX), a 30ml amber vial, filled to the brim with no headspace is also required
  • Any sample requiring just inorganic testing requires either a filled 500 ml amber glass bottle or a 1 litre plastic container.
  • Note: for Water samples it is always advisable to check on the volume of water required.

All Samples

  • Frozen Ice packs should be submitted with samples in cool boxes to ensure temperature is maintained and prevent samples being identified as deviating samples.
  • All samples must have an accompanying chain of custody detailing date sampled.
  • All samples have their temperature logged on receipt at the laboratory.

Recommendations for sample containers depending on the suite of analysis and volume required are available.  Contact the Laboratory for further informatio
