Leicester Mercury Sports Awards January 2018

Leicester Mercury Sports Awards

The 21st year of the Leicestershire Sports Awards was another resounding success celebrating the success of elite and grass root athletes, across a wide range of categories.  Nicholls Colton’s Danielle Elliot presented the Sportswomen of the Year award to Sophie Hahn MBE for her fantastic achievements including Paralympic and triple world sprint champion and improvement of her own World Record at the World Para Athletics Championship in London 2017.  As an international athlete, Danielle “recognised the hard work and dedication to achieve success, Sophie is an exceptional athlete and a beacon of success for women in  sports.  Her achievements in 2017 are phenomenal capped by the award of an MBE in the New Years Honours list”.

There was also success for CEO Ian Elliot, who was presented with a special recognition award for his commitment to sport.  Ian is the volunteer chair of the Swim England’s  Water Polo Management Group, managing and developing the sport across the country on behalf of Swim England.  Successes during 2017 included reinstatement of senior teams for both England and Great Britain and extensive works to develop and support pathways for athletes, coaches and match officials  from participation through to elite levels. He works for 30 plus hours a week in the sport despite his role as owner and CEO of our company.
