July 2016 – Estuarine Bridge – Post-tensioning special investigation

Nicholls Colton TesPTSI - Lynmouthting (NCT) were in scenic North Devon recently, completing an extensive post-tensioning special investigation (PTSI) on an estuarine bridge in the Exmoor National Park. Using a WEMO underbridge unit, our experienced team undertook intrusive investigations to assess the condition of the post-tensioning tendons, grout and anchors. Samples were also collected for chemical analysis at our UKAS accredited laboratory in order to determine the risk of future deterioration posed by the concrete and grout. In addition, an endoscope survey of both bearing shelves was undertaken to identify any signs of distress and trial pits were excavated on the deck to assess the condition and type of waterproofing used.

PTSI is one of over fifty types of testing and survey activities that we offer UK-wide at Nicholls Colton Testing. For more information with regards to the range of services that NCT and the other group companies offer, please email john.davies@nicholls-colton.co.uk, or call +44 (0)116 253 6333. Alternatively, we can provide a scope of services or CPD presentation on your premises at a time to suit you and your staff.
