Consolidation of Soil

Consolidation of Soil

Consolidation of soil– this test determines the one dimensional consolidation properties of soil the magnitude and rate of consolidation of a soil sample. A small disc of the soil in a near saturated condition is confined laterally and subject to vertical loading, water being able to drain from the top and bottom surfaces.  Increasing consolidation pressures are applied, allowing full primary consolidation to occur before continuing, a comparison of applied pressure against voids ratio allowing calculation of the Coefficient of volume compressibility (Mv) and Coefficient of consolidation (Cv).
