Air void content

Testing is often required to identify the actual in-situ air void content of compacted bituminous layers.  Cores taken are split into the layers present and the in-situ bulk density of each separate layer determined.  The material s in-situ density and maximum theoretical density is determined and by calculation, the in-situ air void content found.  Testing in accordance with the requisite part of BS EN 12697 is undertaken by Nicholls Colton Group’s fully equipped *UKAS accredited testing laboratory No. 0320 and *MCERTS accredited laboratory which can undertake a wide range of materials testing.

Testing is used to confirm the compliance of compaction of materials placed.
